About Hervey Bay and Fraser Island PDF Print E-mail

Hervey Bay is one of Queensland’s best natural holiday destinations. Where else but Queensland do you get “beautiful one day - perfect the next” Hervey Bay offers convenient access to World heritage listed Fraser Island – the largest sand island in the world; and Lady Elliot Island – the first coral cay on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

Hervey Bay offers visitors a variety of natural attractions, experiences and activities. Hervey Bay has also gained recognition as the Whale Watching Capital of the World – with the majestic Humpback whales stopping in to relax in the region’s calm waters, on their yearly migration south, from mid July to November. Approximately 60 000 visitors per annum experience the pure exhilaration of Hervey Bay whale watching.

Hervey Bay is blessed with a public reserve esplanade stretching the whole length of the Bay. The Bay is complimented by pristine sandy beaches and sheltered waters, providing safe swimming conditions all year round.

It is easy to access the area with Hervey Bay being located approximately 300 kilometres North of Brisbane. This thriving coastal paradise is accessible by car, bus and coach services, rail and air travel.

Hervey Bay boasts an aquatic environment featuring coral and artificial reefs all teeming with abundant marine life. The great outdoors is a way of life in Queensland, and with Hervey Bay’s stable, sub tropical climate – summer temperatures averaging 29 degrees Celsius, and a winter average of 21 degrees Celsius - it is the perfect location to join the friendly locals and enjoy this coastal paradise.

From Hervey Bay, visitors can take in the natural beauty of the world heritage listed Fraser Island, the Southern Great Barrier Reef at the delightful Lady Elliot Island; and the heritage and history of Maryborough. There are many tour options, attractions and sights for you to discover and enjoy in a Fraser Coast holiday experience.
